Tag der deutschen Einheit

Today is the day of German Unity. 27 years ago east and west Germany became reunited. Because of the holiday, I’ve had the last two days off of school. Not looking forward to having to get up for school tomorrow but I have had a lot of fun. I went to the Berliner Dom yesterday, which is the Cathedral in Berlin. It was an amazing building. The view from above the city in the cupola was astounding. You could see the whole city lying out around the cathedral for what seemed to be all the eye could see. You could see old architecture and new.

After walking through the cupola, we went underneath the cathedral and saw the crypts of the Hohenzollern family, who ruled Prussia and the German Empire, until the last Kaiser abdicated in 1918. I was surprised by how relatively unadorned many of the sarcophagi were. There were only a few that were grand.
